Music...

I started writing songs on the piano when I was a young girl. I never had a music lesson, but always loved to sing. Waiting includes one of the first songs I wrote. It is entitled “Psalm 71” and I wrote it one day in Fort McMurray by cracking open my bible to a random psalm and trying to pen the thoughts a more contemporary way. I wrote my first few songs this way before I tried to just write from my heart. I have been playing guitar since about grade 5.

My Uncle David (who can be heard on the organ and synthesizer on Waiting) came over one day and put a guitar in the middle of the living room. He told my three sisters, my brother and me that whoever learned to play it first could keep it. Though my brother John won out there, I eventually taught myself to play on his guitar and have been enjoying music this way ever since. My own guitars have followed me from Windsor, to Calgary, Fort ‘Mac’ and now Edmonton.

Most of the other songs on Waiting were honed in Rob Heath’s Songwriter’s Circle here in town. Songwriters with all different styles of music gather once a month to play one song each and get critiqued in a positive way. The group has really improved my song-writing skills. Friends and family have asked me for years to compile a C.D of my original tunes and I am proud to present my first full-length production in 2010. My whole family flew out from Windsor, Ontario to perform with me in the studio - including our mum and dad, Mary Anne and Dennis Drew. We had such a blast under Barry Allen's (of Homestead Recorders) direction.
