The LPGA !
Terry’s golf club was transformed for the week of the professional women’s golf tournament or the LPGA. Above you can see the tents surrounding the stands, new posters in windows, artwork replaced with train images, a huge MODEL train, and even the door handles of the Mayfair Golf Course were removed and replaced with giant railroad spikes!
Terry and I volunteered to host one of the professional women’s golfers and we were ‘given’ Carolina (pronounced… Caro- LEEN-a) for the week. Terry made up her room with fresh bedding and flowers and I planned some meals for her stay. Carolina Melgrati is from Italy but currently lives in Arizona. She speaks english very well and she was just the nicest house guest and company. She is also an incredible golfer of course and Terry said that her golfing form was amazing.
Around the same time that we were picking up Carolina from the airport we had another planned arrival! We flew in our middle son to be Terry’s caddy for a special pre-game event where golfers could golf a round with a couple of the pros. Terry and ‘D’ got to go to a huge event at the MacDonald Hotel, downtown Edmonton to bid on their players and timing. They said it was a wonderful experience!
Somehow the weather was actually sunny all week and the boys LOVED the experience of playing the round together. After the golf round day, our son flew home and Terry volunteered as ‘security’ for the rest of the week. This mostly involved directing people to the correct areas for food , washrooms, and autographs, etc. The club had actual security guards as well. It was a lot of time of no sitting and many early mornings and long days. But he pulled it off with grace and loved it.
Unfortunately, Carolina did not have a good 1st day at 7 over and although she had a great second day at only 1 over …..the damage was done and she was not allowed to proceed to the next rounds. I had fun conversations with her and really enjoyed hearing her telling tales about her childhood in Italy/Milan. I found out we have a very similar sense of humour and that she loves to cook.
During our last day together, I took her shopping at Edmonton’s Italian Market. She loved it and that night she made a wonderful salmon dinner for us!
I told Carolina that I am looking forward to her making tons of money, purchasing an villa in Tuscany, and her invite to visit…ha ha.
