Home for Easter!
SO good to be home and have some time once again with my wonderful sister, Paula.
We tried out a brand new restaurant in town called “Stacked” and boy did they stack up those pancakes! The food was delicious, the service great, the restaurant fairly close to my home, and the company….perfection. As per usual we talked for TWO hours and they flew by.
That afternoon Terry and I drove to the Marian Center to paint and say hello to our friends whom we have also missed for a month.
I was so surprised that the pysanky table and dyes were still set up AND there was a carton of blown duck eggs this time. I had to go for it but could I complete the egg in one afternoon?
Of course that had to be the first time EVER that I didn’t seal the hole in the egg well enough and the first dye (yellow) seeped in. This can ruin an egg. Not only will it discolour the egg but it can blow up if you try and plug it again and then use the flame upon it later to remove the wax. So…I had to try and drain the egg and be patient for all the dye to flow out. And although it isn’t perfect I did manage to do a fairly nice job in finishing up the pysanky before Easter. What do you think?
That night we attended the Holy Thursday mass and it was such a beautiful experience as always. But for the first time Terry and I got chose to have our left feet washed with the other 10 volunteers up on the altar. Our priest, Fr. Dean, imitates Christ as he kneels down the line and becomes a servant to us by washing our feet as Jesus did at the Last Supper. Tears flowed down my cheeks and I felt humbled and honoured at the same time.
We chose the 11 am Good Friday service the next morning.
It was so gratifying to see the church packed and there were scads of children. Amazingly, the church was solemn and quiet despite this and it was also a lovely mass. This service also makes me very emotional. The entire church goes up to ‘venerate’ the cross. I used to kneel before it but now I stand and kiss it. There are people to wipe it after each person prays before it in their own way. It is a gorgeous ceremony of love. The choir did a good job as well.
As I write this I will be getting ready for Holy Saturday and some cooking for Easter Sunday.
May God bless you all with his love and peace.
