Making a Guitar
Last August I gave Terry his birthday present. It was a package of…..wood! Ha Ha. I spent over an hour with a luthier (Guitar maker) to choose the woods that would be the most beautiful and give the most ‘ringing’ tone once the guitar was completed.
Terry seemed to be extremely happy with the gift and at first was going to John’s shop about once a week. Soon enough Terry ended up going over at 3 times a week and he told me that he loved the experience. I’m positive I do not have the correct order of the photos but you will get the idea of how much work went into this guitar.
I asked Terry to bring me home photos every time and he did! It’s such a fascinating process but honestly I would NOT want to make one myself. There will be cracks. There will be mistakes that have to be fixed. There will be divots or more sanding needed or too much sanding done and on and on. He has the patience of Job!
A large part of making your own guitar is sanding. It takes some muscle power. And then if you sand too much….well you have to build up the area again. Ugh. What a process!
I love the design Terry came up with for the logo for the head of the guitar. “T J B“.
At the end of April Terry came home with his finished guitar! It is gorgeous and sounds BEAUTIFUL!
Congratulations, Terry! ( And he wants to build another one!).
(John Beaton is a great teacher. Thanks to John as well!)
Every detail you see from the middle back of the guitar, to the edges, to the rosette is made up of individual pieces of wood that Terry applied. Wow!
Time to write more music!
