A Pop of Yellow
Yellow : A beautiful colour. What does it mean to you?
Yellow can be associated with illness, cowardice, envy, and caution.
When I think of yellow I think of sunshine and a lightness of spirit. I think of positive feelings. In Asian countries it is often associated with royalty. I’ve heard it associated with wisdom too.
When I wear yellow I feel spring in the air ….and in my step.
I think of the sun and how blessed we are to feel its warmth even in the midst of winter.
Autumn foliage in Edmonton where I live, is made up of more yellows than any other colour. I love the yellow leaves of the Aspens on ….or off the trees …..when they blanket the ground with their crunchy beauty.
I often use yellow to highlight my paintings or mix with other colours to lighten them. Yellow is one of the oldest colors in history, seen in cave paintings over 17,000 years old. The yellow pigment from ochre was readily available in prehistoric times and one of the first pigments used in cave art. Yellow is also a common color in paintings from Ancient Rome and Egypt, where it was used to depict skin color.
Renaissance and Medieval artists used “Indian yellow” — a pigment obtained when a cow eats only mango leaves. This color was used to show a person as an outsider, especially Judas Iscariot from the Bible.
I love the yellow canola fields in July. Yellow roses are my favourite and they signify platonic friendship and optimism. I love eating bananas and I enjoy seeing yellow taxis! I love the look of those annoying dandelions (which also have healing powers by the way)
and coincidentally, I just happen to be wearing yellow today!
May your day be filled with sunshine today….and always.
Love,
Laura
