DREAM : World Premier!
It was a ‘big sky day’ the Friday we headed out to Rosebud for the World Premier of Terry’s musical, “DREAM”. It seemed like there were horses around every corner and lovely views of old homesteads and tilled farms.
We thought it was funny that the town of “Rowley” made a sign like it was Los Angeles and not Alberta. We were going to eat our lunch in Canmore but there turned out to be a massive carnival going on downtown! We ended up eating a nice meal at Ricki’s and then continued on to Rosebud.
After checking in I was so surprised to see that I had already sold one of my paintings at The Country Inn! Sold on the first day??? But it turned out that our friends from Calgary purchased it so it was really an honour and I feel so thankful to B.J. and her husband, Ken for allowing me to hang some of my “Through The Rainy Windshield” paintings there.
We enjoyed an afternoon coffee with our friends and a piece of homemade pie. Before we knew it …..it was time to go to the buffet dinner at the Mercantile and then to the play.
The buffet is always great but I was so nervously anxious that I could barely eat. Oddly, Terry seemed unaffected by the opening of his show…ha ha. We enjoyed some dinner music performed live by a couple of the students at the Rosebud School too.
We grabbed a quick ‘selfie’ on our way over to the Opera House and it was great to see a full house. I felt even more emotional when I saw a huge photo of Terry’s parents at 15 and 17 years of age behind the instruments. It was SO cool that the cast played the instruments themselves as well.
Morris Ertman directed the musical and his son, Luke, was musical director. These two gentlemen are so very very talented. We were blessed to work with them, that’s for sure. I couldn’t imagine the show being better than the many versions we had worked with over the last several years but …..it WAS! We heard that one patron told B.J. that if someone didn’t like the show …they must me dead! Ha ha.
I love love loved the new cast and that was great because the cast last year was also so excellent.
Morris kept the sets and props to a minimum which worked budget wise but also to keep the action moving smoothly. We loved how the audience responded to the humour and the pathos. They were very vocal …perhaps especially the 2 ladies behind us who couldn’t help saying things out loud like, “ OH NO!” when something tough was revealed…ha ha.
At the end of the show the audience jumped into a standing ovation with lots of hoots and hollers that made us feel good. I thought it was SO cute that so many people asked Terry for his autograph and to have their photo taken with him! A wee taste of fame!
There was a wonderful invitation for the audience to gather outside for drinks and nibblies and to meet the cast. It was a warm night and after that part ended we went on to yet another gathering….this time of the cast at a friend’s home.
The next day, after a delicious breakfast at B.J.’s, we headed over to ‘Rose Cottage’ to meet up with our friends Sue and John who run that B & B.
Sue loves decorating her downstairs to match the theme of each show and she wanted us to see her “Dream” room. She did a wonderful job as always.
Now Terry’s play is on for the whole summer. We will be travelling down to see it a few more times with family and friends. I just KNOW you will love it.
