Celebrating Our Fathers
We don’t usually have children in town on Father’s Day….(or on Mother’s Day for that matter as I am always in Ontario that day).
So it was a lovely surprise to spend most of the day with our daughter, Emily.
That morning, Terry and I had led the music at our church for the 9, 10:30, and noon masses. Phew. That was nice but I must admit my body found it quite a lot! (It took me 3 days to get over the shoulder pain.)
I was sad to miss my Sunday Zoom call that afternoon but it was fun to have brunch with Emma and then hear lots and lots of stories about her Bad Buddy band’s tours in Japan and England. She really enjoyed trying out the guitar her dad built.
And on the spur of the moment we all decided to see a movie! The one we landed on was called The Materialists and it was……pretty boring. The lead actress had such a flat delivery that it was difficult for all 3 of us to stay awake….ha ha.
After the show we had a wonderful meal at Joey’s and called it a night after that.
Terry is a wonderful father. Our sons are also great dads.
My dad is 93 and I still admire him and the way he raised us with mum. Terry’s dad ,Ed, was an incredible father as well (and you might want to check out the musical “DREAM” that Terry wrote about his life…being performed at Rosebud mainstage, Alberta.)
I also think about my Father, God. Here’s a wee prayer I wrote….
Even though I could not yet talk I knew you could understand me.
When I lost my ability to stand and walk you held me safe, I now see.
My Father dear I know you’re near and I thank you for your love…….
My family, my friends, my life…. they are gifts from Heaven above.
You hear my voice, you know my heart, you know me through and through.
This Father’s Day when I awake I’ll also think of you.
Amen.
