Elk Island and Lamont

Another perfect day for a road trip so we headed out to Elk Island National Park for the first time this summer. The agenda was about playing Tile Rummy and having a barbequed hamburger lunch..ha ha. It was delicious and the game is always a fun challenge.

After lunch we enjoyed a short walkabout. There were massive beaver dams everywhere and the quiet was gorgeous too. (My husband too and he’s a remarkably tolerant, good sport about having his photo taken.)

After reading our books for a while, we packed up and headed out through the north of the park and ended up heading to a very small town called Lamont. But not before we passed by old barns, old cars, and a sculpture made out of ….old limos!

Lamont refers to Lamont County in Alberta, Canada, a region known as the "Cradle of Ukrainian Settlement" and a significant part of Alberta's Industrial Heartland. There were about 1,800 residents in 2024.

It’s a pretty little town with a lot of heritage and colour.

I’ll leave you with a photo of the lone buffalo we passed in Elk Island Park…..
